TEST PRESSING BENEFIT AUCTION!

I just wanted to drop everyone a quick line to let you know that I've just listed a bunch of test pressings from the label archives on eBay. All the money from these auctions is going to the DIY SPACE FOR LONDON, which is a new space that is about to open in the upcoming weeks. They have been fundraising for the last three years and are weeks away from opening a legal, all ages space that this city is crying out for, but they need a last small push of funds for the finishing touches. To help out, we've listed a bunch of titles. This will most likely be the only time that I'll do this, and some of these are the only spare copies I own.

Records are listed from:
CREEM
SHEER MAG
S.H.I.T.
PERSPEX FLESH
DEAF MUTATIONS
ULTRA VIOLENT
URBAN BLIGHT
THE NUMBER ONES
SAUNA YOUTH
IMPALERS

and I will also add more in the next few days if I find anything else interesting...

You can check the auctions at this link:
http://t.co/Zys3FB4xkn

And if you would like to learn more about the space, you can check it out here:
http://diyspaceforlondon.org/

Thanks for checking these out, and if anyone has the time to share this information in any way or form, I'd really appreciate it. It'd be great to get the word out there about these!

VEXX in London!

STATIC SHOCK GIG VOL #79

VEXX
Hailing from Olympia, Washington, VEXX are a true anomaly. Unhinged, Penelope Houston-style vocals with the meth-driven guitar solos of the ZERO BOYS and highly syncopated rhythms to devastating impact. Songs like "Falling Down" and "Spirit/Contraint" blaze past with their breakneck tempos, yet contain enough pop sensibility to yield repeated plays. While VEXX sound more small-town Midwest than gloomy Northwest, they still pay occasional homage to the ominous sounds of the WIPERS on standout track "Ocean Shores" Ð showing they understand their geographical antecedents better than most. Elsewhere, "Stress" and "Roky, Take me Home" recall the thuggish menace of Hermosa Beach groups, with vocals that alternate between a grumble and a roar.
Records on Katorga Works, Upset The Rhythm and M'Ladys, and also featuring members of G.L.O.S.S.

New records from SHEER MAG, AJAX and DISGUISE out today!

Hello everyone, I hope the summer is treating you well. AJAX and IMPALERS both recently toured Europe and had a great time. DISGUISE shortly followed with DiE and by all accounts killed it every night too. FRAU are also preparing to go to America, Canada and Mexico for the first time in August as well.  Its time to let you know that three new records are out today and now available to order. These are all a little different to each other and all great:

SHEER MAG - SHEER MAG II 7"

"In 2014, Sheer Mag seemingly came out of nowhere with what was probably our favorite release of the year, debuting, straight to vinyl, their brand of hard rock-inspired power pop perfection. This time around, expectations are unreasonably high, but guess what? Sheer Mag don't care!

Out from under this table, these Philly miscreants return stronger than ever, this time toning down (ever so slightly) the power pop undertones that got them comparisons to the Shivvers (female vocals?) and putting the rock in the forefront. Still, the band could pass as the Jackson 5 re-imagined as a punk trash compactor and this record stands tall as what will definitely be the hard rock record of the year."

AJAX - S/T 7"

New York's AJAX follow up their demo and Self Titled 7" on Katorga Works with undoubtedly their best material yet. The four tracks on this new recording continue their perfected blend of early Boston influenced hardcore and Swedish, Totalitär influenced riffs and gruff, Choke-esque vocals. Features members of Creem, Warthog and Nuclear Spring. Comes in a full colour pocket sleeve with great artwork from Shiva Addanki.

DISGUISE - SIGNS OF THE FUTURE MLP

Dublin, like New York or London, is a city whose punk in 2015 matches its vibrancy with its refusal to be defined by one sound. Multiple bands, all with wildly divergent takes on 2015 punk, all unified in their DIY ethic and refusal to compromise. The first 12" from searing rawpunx Disguise (who also feature 2/3 of Zom and members of Strong Boys) continues where their System Shock 7" left off, slamming together the lithe turmoil of Gloom, the monstrous purpose of Bastard, the ugly burn of Crude SS into a violent driving gunk, like Florida's Mauser or Australia's Kromosom, taking that Scandi-Japanese rawpunk axis and stretching it out to their own corner of the globe.

Built on a relentless sinister thrum, a taut propulsive clatter, Disguise explode with scalding fury in the screaming guitars and tortured barks and roars echoing out of the radioactive slurry. From Constant Victim pure vitriol rolling into Signs of the Future's noisestomp groove, to Depleted Uranium heady crash and BBFM's broken fade, this is ferocious hardcore punk, worked til its end. (Joe Briggs)

There's a limited amount of colour vinyl copies available in the webstore for this one too!

Static Shock Gig Vol #77: IMPALERS (USA), AJAX (USA), NO & CULT SYNDROME

Static Shock Gig Vol #77

IMPALERS
There are a few phrases you will always see in reviews for hardcore bands; "this rips!" or "totally insane!!" or even the occasional "fucking brutal!" But there here is something you don't hear every day: FINESSE. And I can think of no better word to describe Austin's Impalers. I could talk about the perfect drumming, the wailing solos, the expert riffs, or I could just call like I see it: this band is flawless, never boring, and a total banger on top of that. These boys have cut their teeth touring in various bands like Vaaska, Insect Warfare, Glue, Mammoth Grinder, Power Trip and countless others and playing on countless releases for more than a few years now and it shows. They almost has a later Cimex vibe without all the cheesy shit that made you afraid to admit that you liked those records. Like I said before, FINESSE. These guys know what the are doing and are here to make that very clear to you. Releases on 540, Beach Impediment, Trabuc, Todo Destructo and Static Shock Records.

AJAX
Taking the blueprint of blistering USHC with riffs reminiscent of Swedish classics like Totalitär and one of the most powerful vocalists going today, Ajax have quickly become one of the most interesting contemporary hardcore bands. Featuring members of Warthog, Creem and Nuclear Spring and with releases on Katorga Works, Static Shock and Even Worse Records.

NO
Ferocious dissonant hardcore focused in intensity and all-out rage. References to Midwest USA hardcore are often used to describe NO but while not completely off the mark they are just one of the many points of reference for this rather complicated band. NO are another living proof of how great the current UK hardcore crop is. Releases on Static Shock and La Vida Es Un Mus.

Upcoming shows...

I feel like I can occassionly neglect spreading the word about gigs that I'm putting on in London outside of using the traditional methods of flyers / posters and the not so traditional method of using Facebook. To help combat this, I'm going to start announcing shows on here too. Here's what's coming up over the next week:

Static Shock Gig Vol #74

BAD NOIDS (USA)

From the town that brought you 9 Shocks Terror, H100s and Inmates, the new school of Cleveland Ohio hardcore punk is here with Bad Noids. Simple, anthemic, catchy punk rock for simple, anthemic, catchy people. Did I mention that their singer Oddjob lights his hair on fire while playing? Did I also mention that they have a harmonica solo that might be even better than Gorilla Biscuits? A lot of bands wish they were from Cleveland, others actually are. Up the gamma toaster punks. LP on Katorga Works.

SSR031 Coming Soon: SHEER MAG - II 7"

The sophomore EP from Sheer Mag should be out by late May / early June, pressing plant shenanigans aside...

SHEER MAG - II
In 2014, Sheer Mag seemingly came out of nowhere with what was probably our favorite release of the year, debuting, straight to vinyl, their brand of hard rock-inspired power pop perfection.

Still, the band could pass as the Jackson 5 re-imagined as a punk trash compactor and this record stands tall as what will definitely be the hard rock record of the year.

If you're in America, you should pick up the record directly from Katorga Works / Wilsuns RC. It'll work out way cheaper for you!
